Meatballs
• 1 ½ cups plain breadcrumbs
• 2 tsp onion powder
• 2 tsp garlic powder
• ⅓ cup milk
• 2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
• 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
• 1 lb ground beef
• 1 lb ground pork
• 1 tsp kosher salt
• ½ tsp black pepper
• one egg

Sauce
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 1 medium yellow onion, grated
• 1 celery stalk, grated
• 1 medium carrot, grated
• 3 garlic cloves, minced
• 1 (24 oz) jar passata or tomato puree
• ½ cup water
• Pinch red pepper flakes
• 3 fresh basil sprigs
• Salt and pepper, to taste

Sandwich
• 8 Turano French Rolls
• 12-16 slices mozzarella or provolone cheese (optional)
• Grated Parmesan cheese
• Fresh basil leave

Directions

① In a large bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, onion powder, garlic powder, and milk. Let sit for 5 minutes.
② Add chopped parsley, grated parmesan cheese, ground beef, ground pork, salt, and pepper, and one egg. Mix until fully combined.
③ Roll the mixture into mini meatballs, approximately 1 to 1¼ inches in diameter.
④ Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook for 6-8 minutes, turning frequently until browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.
⑤ In the same pan, add the grated onion, celery, carrot, and garlic. Cook for 5-7 minutes until softened.
⑥ Add the passata, basil, and red pepper flakes. Season with salt and pepper and bring to a gentle simmer.
⑦ Return the meatballs to the sauce and stir gently to coat. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes until the meatballs are cooked through and tender.
⑧ Slice the Turano French Rolls and place them on a sheet pan. Spread garlic butter over rolls and bake for 3-5 minutes at 375°. Once back out of the oven, place mozzarella slices on the Mini French Rolls.
⑨ Add 2-3 meatballs to each roll and spoon additional sauce over the top.
⑨ Top with mozzarella or provolone cheese if desired. Cover with top half of Mini French Rolls and spread additional garlic butter over the top if desired. Cover with foil and bake for an addition at 375°F for 5-7 minutes , or until the rolls are warm and the cheese is melted. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil before serving.
