Cheesy Beer Brats

Cheesy Beer Brats

Ingredients

• 5 Turano Gourmet Brat Rolls
• 5 beer brats
• 2 Tbs. butter, unsalted
• 2 Tbsp. flour
• 1 cup whole milk
• ¼ cup beer, any pale lager
• 1 tsp. Dijon mustard
• ¼ tsp. kosher salt
• 1 ½ cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
• Vegetable oil, for frying
• 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced into rings
• 1 ½ cups buttermilk
• 1 cup flour
• ¼ tsp. paprika
• ½ tsp. salt
• ½ tsp garlic powder
• ¼ tsp. black pepper

Directions

① Preheat grill on medium. Place brats on the grill and cook for about 10 minutes.
② Meanwhile, place a small saucepan on medium heat, add butter. Once the butter has melted, add flour and whisk together. Cook for about 2 minutes then add milk and beer. Continue to whisk until the mixture has thickened. Season with Dijon mustard and salt then turn off the heat. Add shredded cheddar and stir until cheese has fully melted. Keep warm.
③ Heat a medium saucepan to 350˚F with enough vegetable oil to fry. In a small bowl, soak onions in buttermilk. In a medium bowl, combine flour, paprika, salt, garlic powder, and pepper. Mix to combine.
④ Drain onions and dredge in the flour mixture. Shake off excess flour and fry for about 2 minutes or until golden brown.
⑤ Place a cooked brat in a warmed roll then top with warm beer cheese sauce and crispy onions. Enjoy!
