Homemade Meatball Sandwich
Ingredients
1 28-ounce can whole tomatoes, San Marzano, if available
¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil
2 garlic cloves, smashed
¼ tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon kosher salt
¼ teaspoon dried oregano, more to taste
2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 teaspoon dried oregano
2 teaspoon dried basil
2 teaspoon dried parsley
2 teaspoon onion powder
2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 lb. ground chuck
1 lb. ground pork
2 eggs
½ cup breadcrumbs
6 Turano Soft Sub Rolls
12 slices provolone cheese or ½ c.
shredded mozzarella
Grated parmesan cheese (optional)
Directions
Mix all sauce ingredients in a sauce pot and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Let simmer at least 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350*F.
Mix meats, eggs, breadcrumbs and seasonings together until just blended. Do not overwork.
Roll meat mixture into 1 oz. balls and place on a baking sheet.
Bake meatballs for 20 minutes, or until firm to the touch.
Transfer meatballs to simmering sauce, stir to coat.
Place provolone slices (or mozzarella) into hinge-sliced sub rolls, then place 3-4 meatballs in each roll.
Sprinkle with parmesan (if desired) and serve.
