Patty Melt with Caramelized Apples and Onions
Patty Melt with Caramelized Apples and Onions
Ingredients
Caramelized Apples and Onions
• 2 yellow onions, peeled, halved and thinly sliced
• 3 apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
• 1 Tbsp olive oil
• 1 tsp cinnamon
• 1 tsp cumin
• 1 tsp salt
• 2 tbsp butter
Patty Melt
• 1 lb 80/20 ground beef (you can use up to 1.25 lb)
• 1 tsp salt
• 1/2 tsp black pepper
• 1 tsp onion powder
• 1 tsp garlic powder
• 4 Tbsp butter, at room temperature
• 4 Tbsp mayonnaise
• 8 slices Turano Rustic Rye bread
• 8 slices cheese Swiss cheese
Directions
① First start the apples and onions. Add the ingredients to a skillet and cook on medium heat, stirring often. They will first lose their moisture, and then slowly start to turn golden. Once softened and golden, set aside.
② While the apples and onions are cooking, mix the ground beef with the salt, pepper, onion, and garlic powder. Mix until everything is well combined and divide the meat mixture into four equal parts.
③ Roll the meat into a rough ball shape, then flatten it into thin smashed burgers a little bigger than the size of your bread slices and oval in shape.
④ In a skillet over medium heat, place the patties and cook for about 6-8 minutes on each side. Once you’ve flipped the patties, add two slices of cheese and cover the pan with a lid until the cheese has fully melted.
⑤ While the patties are cooking toast the rye bread either on a skillet with mayo on each side or in a toaster oven.
⑥To build the sandwich place the toasted bread, spread a thin layer of mayo, top with the cheesy patty, caramelized apples, and onions, and top with the toasted slice of rye. Enjoy!
