Cheesy Steak Sandwich
Cheesy Steak Sandwich
Ingredients
1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
3/4 pound sirloin steak tips, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 cup 1% low-fat milk, divided
4 teaspoons all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1.5 ounces Dubliner cheese
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 Turano French Rolls, sliced
Directions
FOR MEAT: Caramelize onions for about a half an hour until they are brown and sweet. Meanwhile, in another pan, combine steak tips, salt, pepper, and worcestershire sauce over high heat. Cook to desired doneness, a few minutes or more.
FOR CHEESE SAUCE: Combine 1/4 cup milk and flour in a saucepan; stir with a whisk. Stir in remaining 3/4 cup milk and salt; bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently. Reduce heat to low; simmer 2 minutes or until slightly thickened, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in cheese and pepper, stirring until cheese melts.
ASSEMBLY: Spread each side of the French Roll with some of the cheese sauce. Add meat, caramelized onions, and more cheese sauce. Sprinkle with a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce, if desired, and serve immediately.
