Grilled Philly-Style Burger
Ingredients
Burger:
• 2 Pounds ground beef (80/20 or 85/15), divided into 8 portions
• 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter divided
• 8 Slices Provolone cheese
• 8 Slices White American cheese
• 4 Turano Gourmet Sandwich Rolls
Veggies:
• 2 Tablespoons olive oil
• 1 Green bell pepper thinly sliced
• 1 Red bell pepper thinly sliced
• 1 Yellow onion thinly sliced
• 1 Teaspoon dried oregano
• ½ Teaspoon kosher salt
• ¼ Teaspoon black pepper
• 2 Cloves garlic minced
• 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
• 2 Teaspoons red wine vinegar
• ¼ Cup jarred hot cherry peppers, drained and roughly chopped (optional)
Directions
① Make the onions and peppers. Cut the onion into large rounds and use a tooth pick to hold each onion round together. Place the onions on indirect heat on the grill. Next, rub the whole peppers with olive oil and place directly on the heated grill. Once the onions and peppers have charred, remove them from the grill. Remove all of the black char coating of the peppers and slice into strips, cut the onion rounds in half. In a bowl, add the garlic, Worcestershire and red wine vinegar. Add in the peppers and onions and stir until well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning to your liking.
② Place your beef patties on the heated grill, season with salt, and cook for 3 minutes on each side. Top one patty with White American cheese and the other with provolone and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
③ Lightly toast the buns on the grill.
④ To assemble, stack two patties on the bun, one with provolone and one with American cheese. Top with the peppers and onions.
